This bird and butterfly magnet grows easily in average, dry to medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. The plant is hardy, adaptable, and drought tolerant. It makes for a great fresh or cut flower. The large daisy-like flowers have purple-pink petals with large orange cones and a long summer bloom.

The genus name, Echinacea, is from the Greek word echino, which means hedgehog, alluding to the spiny, central disk. The Echinacea plant is widely known for its unique medicinal properties, especially its ability to increase the body’s immune system. Use in fighting the common cold and flu is likely the most common usage.
